How to Monitor the Services on your Server from WHM?

Monitoring the services on your server through WHM (Web Host Manager) is crucial to ensure that your server and websites are running smoothly. Step 1: Log in to WHM

1. Access the WHM Login Page:

- Open your web browser and navigate to the WHM login page. This is typically https://yourserverip:2087 or https://yourdomain.com:2087.

2. Enter Your Admin Credentials:

- Input your WHM root username and password.

- Click Log in to access the WHM dashboard.

Step 2: Locate the Service Status Tools

1. Search for Service Status:

- In the WHM search bar (located in the left sidebar), type “Service Status” to quickly find the relevant section.

2. Navigate to Service Status:

- Click on Service Status under the Server Status category. This will display a list of all the critical services running on your server.

Step 3: View the Status of Server Services

1. Check Service Status Overview:

- The Service Status page provides an overview of the current state of essential services on your server, such as Apache, MySQL, Exim, FTP, and more.

2. Interpret the Service Indicators:

- Each service will have an indicator next to it:

Green: The service is running normally.

Yellow: There may be a warning, such as high memory usage.

Red: The service is down or experiencing issues.

Step 4: Monitor System Health with Server Information

1. Check Server Information:

- To get more detailed information about the overall health of your server, navigate to Server Information under the Server Status section.

2. Review System Metrics:

- Here, you can see CPU load, memory usage, disk space, and more. This information helps you understand the overall performance and health of your server.

Step 5: Monitor Services Using the Service Manager

1. Access Service Manager:In the WHM search bar, type “Service Manager” and click on it under the Service Configuration category.

2. View and Configure Services:

The Service Manager allows you to see which services are enabled and running. You can also enable or disable specific services from this section.

3. Enable Monitoring:

- Ensure that the Monitor checkbox is enabled for all critical services you want to keep an eye on. This setting will automatically notify you if any monitored services stop working.

Step 6: Set Up Service Monitoring Alerts

1. Configure Contact Information:

Go to Contact Manager in the WHM search bar to set up your contact details for receiving alerts.

2. Set Notification Preferences:

Choose how you want to be notified (via email, SMS, or other methods) if a service goes down or encounters issues. Adjust the alert priorities as necessary.

Step 7: Use the Process Manager to Monitor Real-Time Service Activity

1. Access the Process Manager:

In the WHM search bar, type “Process Manager” and click on it under the System Health category.

2. Review Active Processes:

The Process Manager shows a real-time list of processes currently running on your server. You can view details like CPU and memory usage for each process, allowing you to identify any processes that are consuming excessive resources.

Step 8: Monitor Server Logs for Detailed Analysis

1. Access the Logs:

Navigate to cPanel >> Logs section to access different types of logs, including Apache, error, and system logs.

2. Analyze Log Files:

Regularly check logs for any unusual activities or errors. Logs can provide detailed insights into what might be causing service issues or server performance problems.

Step 9: Take Action on Service Issues

1. Restart Services if Needed:

If you notice a service that is down or experiencing issues, you can restart it directly from WHM. Go to Restart Services in the search bar and select the service you need to restart.

2. Investigate the Root Cause:

For any recurring issues, investigate the root cause by checking logs, server configurations, and monitoring resource usage. You may need to adjust server settings or contact your hosting provider for further assistance.

Step 10: Log Out of WHM (Optional)

Log Out Securely:

After monitoring and making necessary adjustments, click the Logout button at the top-right corner of the WHM interface to securely end your session.
