Gmail comes with the provision to access other email accounts right within it. Accessing all of your email accounts in one place helps you comfortably monitor them without constantly logging into different webmail providers.
Setting this up is straightforward through Gmail's settings.
Let’s get started!
First, you should log in to your Gmail account using the web browser with the primary Gmail account. Click the gear icon in the top right and then choose 'Settings' from the list that appears.
Go to the 'Accounts and Import' section in the Options window and click 'Add a mail account.'
You'll get suggestions to input the full email address for the account you'd like to get. Type the address and click 'Next'.
Gmail will now check for supported account types. If your email provider allows access via IMAP, Gmail can retrieve and send emails through their system.
Please enter your full email address and the password for the account you are adding. Choose 'Less secure apps' from the security options in your email account or 'Insecure apps' in your email account's security options. This will grant Gmail the required level of access.
Click 'Add Account,' and Gmail will attempt to validate and link your email.
If the account was added successfully, the new email address appears under the primary Gmail inbox containing unread messages.
Click on this to switch to the new inbox and view, send, and manage emails from that external account. Use the 'Select' dropdown to switch between accounts.
You can configure syncing behavior and other options for each added account. Click the Accounts and Import link again and find the 'Send mail as' section.
Enable IMAP if it's not already checked. This will allow you to send outgoing emails from the added account using the Gmail interface.
You can further click 'edit info' and adjust preferences like:
Sending name and reply-to address
IMAP and SMTP server settings
Vacation responder and signature details
Customizing the 'From' address if you have aliases
You can also adjust the frequency of Gmail checks for new emails in the 'Label incoming messages' area.
Remember to click 'Save Changes' when done with any configuration updates.
Double-check your email account's security settings if you encounter any authorization or sync errors. You must enable Gmail's access through checkboxes like 'Allow less secure apps' or '2-step verification' where available.
Also, ensure you entered the full email address and password correctly. Try removing and re-adding the account if issues persist.
One significant preference is whether to use POP or IMAP for syncing emails. POP only downloads new emails to the Gmail inbox without leaving a copy on the original server. IMAP keeps emails synced across all devices and servers.
IMAP is generally recommended unless you only want to move emails from the older account to Gmail. If needed, it allows you to continue using your original email client with that account.
The Gmail Account Security Settings allow granular control over how external email accounts are accessed and synced. Explore all the options to customize the behavior to best suit your needs.
With webmail in Gmail configured, start enjoying the convenience of managing personal and work inboxes in one familiar place!
Let’s talk about the future, and make it happen!
