How do you create, edit, and delete a user package with DirectAdmin?

DirectAdmin provides several possibilities, including creating packages of predefined accounts that will facilitate the creation of new accounts. These packages define the resource limits and features available to each user. Here's how to create, edit, and delete user packages in DirectAdmin:

Creating a User Package

1. Log in to your DirectAdmin account as an admin or reseller.

2. Navigate to Account Manager > Manage User Packages. This will open a panel listing all existing user packages.

3. Click the Add Package button to create a new package.

4. Fill out the package creation form with the desired resource limits and features:

- Package Name: A descriptive name for the package

- Disk Space: The maximum disk space allowed for accounts using this package

- Bandwidth: The maximum monthly bandwidth for accounts

- Email Accounts: The maximum number of email accounts permitted

- Databases: The maximum number of databases allowed

- Subdomains: The maximum number of subdomains permitted

- FTP Accounts: The maximum number of FTP accounts allowed

- Parked Domains: The maximum number of parked domains permitted

- Addon Domains: The maximum number of addon domains allowed

- Mailman Lists: The maximum number of Mailman mailing lists permitted

- Cron Jobs: The maximum number of cron jobs allowed

- Shell Access: Whether to enable shell access for accounts

Reseller: Whether to enable reseller privileges for accounts

5. Click Save Changes to create the new package.

The new package will now be available when creating new user accounts.

Editing a User Package

1. Log in to DirectAdmin and go to Account Manager > Manage User Packages.

2. This comes in a list where you highlight the package you want to change and then click the edit button beside it.

3. The package editing form will appear, showing the current resource limits and features for that package.

4. Make any desired changes to the package settings.

5. Click Save Changes to apply the edits to the package.

Note that editing a package will not affect existing accounts using that package. The changes will only apply to new accounts created with the modified package.

Deleting a User Package

1. Go to DirectAdmin, find Account Manager, and click 'Manage User Packages'.

2. Locate the package you wish to uninstall in the list, right-click on it, and select delete.

3. A confirmation popup will appear. Click OK to permanently delete the package.

Once deleted, the package will no longer be available to create new accounts. Existing accounts using the deleted package will not be affected.

Best Practices for User Packages

1. Create packages that align with your hosting plans and target customers. For example, you may have packages for personal websites, small businesses, e-commerce sites, etc.

2. Set resource limits generously to avoid customers hitting their limits too quickly. You can always upgrade them to a higher package later.

3. The packages' Descriptive names should be used to explain their purpose, like "Small Business" or "Enterprise."

4. Ensure that you keep on reviewing the various packages that you have and make changes where necessary to meet the changing trends of the market.

5. Perhaps it will be helpful to develop a specific "Custom" package for users with no limitations on the amount of services consumed as a bonus for experienced customers.

Educate your customers on requesting package upgrades if they need more resources.

User packages can be used to set up user creation and decrease the load on the administrator's plate, making account creation a more straightforward process for your DirectAdmin hosting customers. Sometimes, it may be advantageous to devote a bit of time to developing attractive, highly suitable, and necessarily packaged programs.
