How to Copy or Move Files in cPanel File Manager?

Copying or moving files in cPanel's File Manager is straightforward and allows you to manage your website's files efficiently. Here’s a step-by-step guide to copying or moving files:

Steps to Copy or Move Files in cPanel File Manager

1. Log in to cPanel

Open your web browser and navigate to your cPanel login page (https://yourdomain.com/cpanel or https://cpanel.yourdomain.com).

Enter your username and password to access the cPanel dashboard.

2. Open File Manager

In the Files section of the cPanel dashboard, click on File Manager.

The File Manager interface will open in a new tab or window, displaying the directory structure of your website.

3. Navigate to the Source Location

Use the left-hand directory tree to navigate to the folder containing the file(s) or folder(s) you want to copy or move.

The contents of the selected directory will be displayed in the right-hand pane.

4. Select the Files or Folders

Click on the file or folder you wish to copy or move to highlight it.

To select multiple files or folders, hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac) while clicking on each item.

5. Copy or Move the Files/Folders

Once the files or folders are selected, you have two options:

Copy: Click on the Copy button in the top menu (or right-click and select Copy).

Move: Click on the Move button in the top menu (or right-click and select Move).

6. Specify the Destination Path

A pop-up window will appear asking you to specify the destination path:

Copy: Enter the path where you want to copy the selected files/folders.

Move: Enter the path where you want to move the selected files/folders.

You can type in the destination path directly or use the Browse button to navigate through directories.

7. Complete the Copy or Move

After specifying the destination path, click Copy Files or Move Files (depending on the action you chose).

The selected files or folders will be copied or moved to the specified directory.

8. Verify the Action

Navigate to the destination folder to ensure that the files or folders have been copied or moved successfully.

Additional Tips:

Creating a Backup Before Moving Files: It’s a good practice to create a backup of your files before moving them, especially if they are critical for your website’s functionality.

Understanding Directory Structure: Be sure you understand the directory structure of your site to avoid moving files to the wrong location.

Undoing Actions: If you mistakenly move or copy files to the wrong location, you can easily move or copy them back to the original directory using the same steps.

By following these steps, you can efficiently manage the files and directories on your website using cPanel's File Manager.
