How to Restore Backup of a File or Directory via WHM?

As a cPanel server admin, you have complete rights to take backups of any files or directories. With WHM, a user can decide to restore the backup for a selected file or directory.

To restore a backup of a file or directory via WHM (Web Host Manager), follow these steps:

Log in to WHM:

Access WHM using your web browser by navigating to the URL provided by your hosting provider, usually in the format https://whm.yourdomain.com

Navigate to Backup Restoration:

Once you are logged in, in the WHM cPanel dashboard, use the search bar or simply navigate through menus to get to the "Backup Restoration" option. It is mainly situated in the part "Copy a Full Backup" or "Restore from Backup File" section of this page.

Select Backup File:

In the backend, the restoration interface is available, which permits a list of the types of recovery that are required to be performed. Choose the type of recovery that fits: a restore of a single file, a directory, or a backup of the entire database.

Choose Backup File:

WHM, the backup system, will additionally prompt you to make sure that you are restoring the correct backup file that you need after you select the type of backup. Surf through options for the available backups and identify the one containing the file/directory to be restored.

Select Restore Options:

WHM will then offer you the options you have to choose from to restore your computer's functionality. That can include choosing the target directory of the restored file or directory, whether to overwrite existing files and so on. Choose the most proper options according to your conditions of use.

Initiate Restoration:

Looking forward, now you've got the restore options brought up, start the restoration process. In the end, assess your choice to ensure that it is ok and to initiate the process, press the 'Confirm' button.

Monitor Progress:

When WHM is launched, it will start recovering the selected file or directory from the backup. Depending on the table size and server resources, this task might take a while to complete. You could assess whether things are moving properly either within WHM or consider whether there's any information regarding that at the restoration procedure.

Verify Restoration:

After the restoration process is completed, verify that the file or directory has been successfully restored to the desired location. You may need to access the file system via SSH or a file manager within WHM to confirm the restoration.

By following these steps, you should be able to restore a backup of a file or directory via WHM successfully. Make sure to double-check your selections and monitor the process to ensure everything proceeds smoothly.
