How to Enable DKIM in DirectAdmin

DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a way to safeguard your domain from false emails. It works by attaching a digital sign-off to your email tops. This lets the receiving server check that the email really did come from your domain. Turning on DKIM in DirectAdmin is simple to do.

Steps to Enable DKIM in DirectAdmin:

1. Log in to DirectAdmin:

Access your DirectAdmin control panel by navigating to http://yourdomain.com:2222/.

Enter your admin credentials to log in.

2. Navigate to the Domain Settings:

From the DirectAdmin dashboard, click on the "E-Mail Manager" section.

Select "DKIM Management" from the list.

3. Enable DKIM:

If DKIM is not already enabled, you will see an option to "Enable DKIM."

Click on the "Enable DKIM" button to activate DKIM for your domain.

4. Verify DKIM Activation:

After enabling, the system will generate DKIM records automatically.

These records will be added to your DNS settings. To ensure that the DKIM is properly configured, you can check the DKIM record in your DNS management panel.

The DKIM record typically looks like this: default._domainkey.yourdomain.com, where yourdomain.com is your actual domain name.

5. Test DKIM Configuration:

Check if DKIM runs properly by trying online tools like DKIM Core or MXToolbox. Shoot an email from your domain to another email address. Then, look at the email headers for the DKIM signature using these tools.

Troubleshooting Tips:

DNS Propagation Delay: Turning on DKIM could mean some DNS changes. These changes may need a bit of time to spread. If DKIM doesn't pass the test right after being turned on, sit tight. Try again in a few hours.

Incorrect DNS Records: Ensure that the DKIM record is correctly added to your DNS settings. A minor typo can cause the DKIM to fail.

SPF and DMARC Configuration: Think about boosting your email safety. How? It's quite straightforward. Start by using SPF, which stands for Sender Policy Framework. But don't stop there. Also, incorporate DMARC, this stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance. And guess what? Include something called DKIM too!

By following these steps, you can successfully enable DKIM for your domain in DirectAdmin, enhancing your email security and reducing the chances of your emails being marked as spam.
